Having a backup of your iPhone contacts is very important. You can backup iPhone contacts to Gmail, Windows or Outlook (if it’s installed on the PC). While Outlook and Windows are not bad options, backing up contacts to Google Contacts has its advantages. One of the big advantages is that it becomes easier to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPad or to another iPhone. This guide will help you sync and backup iPhone contacts to Google contacts.
Step 1: Download and install latest version of iTunes on your PC.
Step 2: Connect your iOS device to the PC via the USB cable.
Step 3: Launch iTunes and click on “iPhone” button on top right.
Step 4: Now click on “Info” tab in iTunes.
Step 5: From info tab, check the “Sync Contacts with” option and select “Google Contacts” from the dropdown.
Step 6: When you select “Google Contacts” option, a pop up will appear saying:
“Switching the sync provider will also affect any other iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad that syncs with this user account. Are you sure you want to switch the sync provider?”
Click on “Switch” button to confirm action.
Step 7: After you click Switch, a window will pop up asking you to agree to the terms mentioned therein. Click “Agree” button to continue.
Step 8: Now a window will appear asking for your Google Account credentials.
Step 9: Type in your Gmail username and password and click “OK” button.
iTunes will now connect to your Google Account and will switch the sync provider to Google.
Step 10: Finally, click on “Apply” button in iTunes to sync the contacts.
That’s it. iTunes will now sync iPhone contacts with Gmail / Google contacts. You will be able to access your contacts by logging into Gmail.
